Video compression is also called video encoding. The goal of Video Compression is to visually represent a video file as accurately as possible using the fewest number of bytes (data) to produce smaller file sizes while maintaining quality, which in turn, takes up less storage space.

  • H.264: The new generation of video compression schemes designed to generate very small files but maintain great quality.
  • MPEG-4: A video compression scheme that compresses videos faster than H.264 but generally produces larger files than H.264. The advantage of using MPEG-4 is that it compresses files and DVDs faster than H.264.
